Axum Ethiopian Restaurant: 1279 E. Hastings St. Vancouver, B.C.

Note: This review is from 3/31/2013 I have been craving Mulu's delicious food ever since the Farmers Market closed, (which reminds me, April 6th is opening day! ). It is because of Mulu that I first discovered just how much I love Ethiopian food. So of  course, given both my craving and love for this cuisine, I decided the very first stop of my birthday trip last weekend should be Axum Ethiopian Restaurant in Vancouver. Axum has been on my list of places to check out ever since Sean shared with me his list of recommended Vancouver restaurants . I am not sure why it took me so long to go there, but now that I have been there once, I will definitely return again as soon as possible. The food was absolutely fantastic, and I am afraid my pictures don't even do it justice. My husband and I each ordered the vegetarian combo, which came with a cabbage dish, a yellow split pea dish, a lentil dish, and a spinach and greens dish. Brandywine Kitchen, 1317 Commercial Street

Brandywine Kitchen is one of my favorite places to go, mainly because of their yummy vegan lentil soup and tasty salad combo. Their basil vinaigrette dressing is so delicious, and I love a good salad that includes pickled beets!  Their french fries are often said to be the best in town, made with organic potatoes fried in peanut oil in a fryer where no other food was cooked, making them vegan. They also usually have a sandwich or two on their menu that can be made vegan, if not vegan already. And I am also a fan of the casual atmosphere and friendly staff.

Vegan Pate: More Delicious Than It Looks!

However, despite its appearance, I happen to be a fan of vegan pate, and I love surprising omnivores with a delicious-tasting vegan spread, whether it comes in a can or is made from scratch. Today I am going to share with you information about both kinds of vegan pate. The first comes in a can and is made by a company called Elianni. They have a variety of flavors, all of them certified organic: peppercorn, zesty apple, mushroom, vegetable, and red pepper olive. I have had the pleasure of trying each of these flavors, and they are all delicious. At first I was a little wary of the "zesty apple" flavor--apple in a pate? I wasn't sure what to think. But it ended up being my favorite one. I brought a couple of these to work as part of a birthday celebration, and they were a hit even with...
